Whether you serve them with dips or alongside a simple charcuterie board or Christmas-themed cheese board, homemade tortilla chips are always a hit at any get-together.

How to make Christmas tree tortilla chips

    Ingredients:

    • Flour tortillas
    • Olive oil
    • Red chili flakes – You can omit these if you like!
    • Dried rosemary
Julia holds a brush dipping into a tiny bowl of oil mixed with chili flakes.

Kitchen tools and gadgets you will need:

    • Cutting board and large knife
    • Kitchen scissors
    • Small bowl – To mix the seasoned oil.
    • Pastry brush
    • Baking sheet – 2 half-size sheets (13x18-inch) or 1 and do it in 2 batches.
    • Baking parchment paper – I use it 99% of the time so I don’t have to clean-up my baking sheet, but you can do without it here.

These Christmas tortilla chips are so easy to make!

The process is very quick, especially when you lay several tortillas on top of each other. I usually cut in threes. Sometimes even all 6 of them in one go!

Cut the tortillas into 8 pieces: in half, then again in half and again. Take the cone-like pieces and cut the “trunk” using scissors.

At this stage, all you have to do is brush each tree with the chili flake mixture and bake until nice crispy and light brown. This will take about 10-12 minutes.

How long ahead can I make these?

You can prepare them up to 4-5 days in advance.

    Storage:

Once cooled down completely, transfer all the tortilla chips into an airtight container and keep them at room temperature.

What to serve with tortilla chips?

    • Dips – Make your favorite dip or try simple dill pickle dip or smoked salmon dip.
    • Charcuterie boards
    • Guac – What can taste better than homemade guacamole with fresh tomatoes and avocado served with oven-baked tortilla chips?

    Julia’s tips:

    • Always remember that baking time can vary depending on a lot of factors including your oven and the thickness of tortillas. For this reason, always keep an eye on them, especially when making them for the first time. Also, things that need only 10 minutes in the oven should be checked earlier. Just to be sure and avoid burning them.
    • Dried rosemary can be substituted with Herbs de Provence. Italian seasoning should work great as well.
    • I have noticed that flour tortillas vary from brand to brand. Some are slightly thinner than others which also affects its cooking time.
    • Red chili flakes make these oven-baked tortilla chips lightly spicy but if you don’t like spicy, go ahead and omit them.
