Providing snacks for kids can sometimes be quite the challenge so it’s always good to turn them into fun looking snacks. These Rudolph celery sticks are easy to make which means kids can also help you prepare them.

Do I need special tools to make Rudolph celery snacks?

No, you don’t. Here is what you need for these easy Christmas snacks for kids:

    • Chopping board
    • Knife
    • Small spatula (or knife)

    Possible variations:

Instead of peanut butter, use homemade hazelnut spread or hummus.

Cranberries – I used frozen cranberries, but you can use fresh or dried ones. Another great alternative is red Skittles, M&M’s, Smarties or any red-colored button-shaped candy you can find in your local store. If you want to use fruits, try fresh raspberries.

    Top tips

    • If you have a choice, buy celery sticks that are wider. Also, add more peanut butter to the area where you will attach the pretzels. The reason is simple: if you have thin celery ribs, there will not be much space to attach the pretzels and they might come off. Peanut butter will help them stay in place.
    • Count with more than 12 pretzels to make these. Sometimes they don’t break easily or the way you like them to be.
    • Use a knife or small spatula to spread the filling.

Ways to use up leftover celery:

If you are wondering what to do with leftover celery, I have some easy appetizer ideas for you:

Garlic Cheddar Cheese Dip - a quick dip that can also be spread over crostini or baguette slices.

Sour Cream and Chive Dip - This dip literally takes 3 minutes to make.

Stuffed Celery - perfect last-minute appetizer.

Celery is the perfect accompaniment to all these quick appetizers.

Why not surprise your kids with Christmas tree-shaped mini appetizers?

Mini Christmas Tree Pizzas or Brie Christmas Trees are easy to make and kids love them!

    Prep Time 15 minutes mins
    Total Time 15 minutes mins
    Servings 12 snacks

    Ingredients

    • 4 celery ribs (each cut into 3-inch sticks, see note 1)
    • peanut butter (see note 2)
    • twist pretzels
    • 24 tiny edible candy eyes
    • 12 cranberries (see note 3)
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Cut off the back of each celery stick. Check the photos for reference. This will help the sticks stay in place.
    • Fill each celery stick with peanut butter. Apply a little bit more peanut butter, where the pretzel sticks will go.
    • Then, break the pretzels and stick them into the peanut butter.
    • Add eyes and a nose and repeat until you have used all celery sticks.
    • Serve right away or shortly after you make them.

    Notes

    1. Pat dry the celery with a paper kitchen towel before spreading the peanut butter over. 3 inches = 7.5 centimeters.
    2. Peanut butter can be substituted with hazelnut cocoa spread of your choice. Hummus is also a great alternative, if your kids like it.
    3. For the nose use anything you like: fresh, frozen, dried cranberries, chocolate candies, fresh raspberries or any red-colored button-shaped candy.
    4. I recommend serving these right (or shortly) after you make them to avoid the pretzels going soft. Depending on what you use for the nose, this can also start melting after a while.
    5. This recipe can be easily halved/doubled or tripled ...
